~not treating my autism like a tragedy doesn’t mean it never causes me problems or difficulties~
~being positive about autism isn’t the same as treating it like a “personality quirk”~
~autistic people being happy to be autistic isn’t “romanticizing mental disorders”~
Bullshit anti-autism propaganda and “mommy groups” fucking make me angry. I can’t participate in them AT ALL because not only do they ignore your attempts to educate them, they will all pile on you like angry little chihuahuas.
See, when it comes to vaccines, I’ve seen the ugly part where…
This post is perfection.
SHIT!!!!!!!!!! That’s it any time I see anyone trying to donate to Autism Speaks, I am literally going to do my best talk them out of it. Why the hell would they think it is okay to put this in a video? I fucking hate it when parents murder their disabled children and people actually feel sympathy for those pricks, this is dangerous shit.
You should also know that three weeks after this video aired, a mother DID murder her autistic child. I’m not saying that this video was the cause, but it was widespread enough to be the tipping point.
Also, if you want an Autism Speaks reference to pass along, here you go: http://goldenheartedrose.tumblr.com/anti-autismspeaks

I’m about halfway in the game, and so far, its portrayal of autism is actually quite good. (I especially loved this quote from Isabelle; “I really hate when you neurotypicals assume you know what’s best for others”. Because… yeah, Izzy, I hate that too. xD Isabelle also had an entire speech that deconstructed the concept of “high-functioning” versus “low-functioning” autists. Basically, Isabelle is awesome, and so’s River~)
I did hate that the game namedropped Tony Attwood, though? It really left me wondering if the developers had researched Attwood AT ALL, seeing as he’s the guy who supported the concept of “Cassandra Syndrome”, which seems to go against the message of the game. >_< Then again, the character who mentioned Attwood was a presumably-NT doctor, so maybe it was just the character, not the developers endorsing him? idk. Either way, aside from that, I am so far loving this game. 8D (also, if you’re gonna play it, prepare to be attacked by FEEEEEEELS. Srsly.)

I’m gonna start telling neurotypical people that they don’t act like a neurotypical 3-year-old, so I don’t think they’re REALLY neurotypical, or they must just be a high-functioning neurotypical.
In my opinion, is not a good book. I have read it multiple times.
Its portrayal of autism is stereotypical. The protagonist and narrator, who is autistic, is numbers and math-obsessed, the prototypical “savant.” He connects better with animals than people; in fact he doesn’t seem to care about…
This.
^Yep.
Neurotypical Privilege is “talk to people” being used as a common piece of advice for people who struggle with making friends, even though an autistic person may not know exactly what that means. Neurotypical Privilege is giving advice to autistic people that would require them to pass as neurotypical in order to follow it.
